Field Mapping

Field mapping defines how learner, course, and completion data from HBP products aligns with a client’s LMS or LXP. Our approach is designed to be flexible and to fit into each client’s existing technical setup.

For custom data feeds, we align to the client’s LMS or LXP format, not the other way around. Clients provide their LMS template and a sample file, which helps confirm required fields, data structure, and validation rules. Using this information, we map HBP data to match the client’s system. Clients should also review the standard custom data feed templates for Harvard ManageMentor (HMM) and HBR Spark, which show the data elements we can supply.

As an alternative, we support xAPI for real-time completion tracking:

  • Harvard ManageMentor (HMM): xAPI is supported for course-level completions.
  • HBR Spark: xAPI is supported for real-time completion statements.
  • HBP Collection: xAPI is supported only for Pathway-level completions, not for individual assets.
    • xAPI completions not available for Degreed LXP clients

When choosing between a custom data feed and xAPI, it is important to consider the LMS or LXP’s capabilities and the level of reporting required. Both approaches are commonly used, depending on technical constraints and business needs.

If you have questions about field mapping, data formats, or the best integration approach for your platform, submit a request to Product and Learner Support. They can review your LMS requirements, confirm supported options, and help guide next steps.
