Tips for Success
- Familiarize yourself with the tutorial: Start by completing the tutorial thoroughly. It provides clear, step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the simulation and make strategic decisions effectively. You can revisit the tutorial anytime via the menu in the top-right corner.
- Understand your role as a change agent: Keep in mind that your goal is to lead Spectrum Sunglass through a complex sustainability initiative by diagnosing challenges, managing resistance, and influencing key stakeholders strategically.
- Use the Prepare page wisely: Review the scenario overview, organizational chart, and foreground reading carefully. These resources provide essential context about the company, key employees, and the environment in which you’re driving change.
- Monitor your progress continuously: Keep an eye on the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. It shows critical metrics like Weeks Used, Critical Mass of adopters, Organizational Phase of Adoption, and your Credibility — all of which affect your ability to lead change successfully.
- Make informed, timely decisions: Navigate to the Decide tab to select your course of action. Thoughtfully sequence your strategies to build momentum and maintain credibility. Avoid poorly timed moves that can reduce your influence.
- Collaborate effectively in Team Play: Discuss strategies openly with your teammates, but remember only the Editor can submit decisions. The Editor role rotates, so stay engaged and communicate clearly to ensure cohesive decision-making.
- Leverage the simulation menu: Use the menu (three dots in the top-right corner) to access important information anytime — including your team members, current and upcoming scenarios, tutorial link, scenario progress, leaderboard (if enabled), and your Change Efficiency Ratio (CER).

How to Play the Simulation
- You’ll participate either individually or as part of a team, but each player must log into the simulation using their own browser window.
-
Upon logging in, you'll see a screen displaying your team members' names, a "View Tutorial" option, and a "Join Team Play" button. If you're playing individually, you'll only see the "View Tutorial" and "Play Now" options.
- Click on the Join Team Play/Play Now option to proceed.
-
You will land on the Prepare page, which offers an overview of how to play and introduces the specific scenarios assigned to you, including a brief on the change context.
-
The organizational chart view on the right hand side shows the top 20 employees and their functional areas within Spectrum Sunglass Company. The chart is tailored to your scenario, and you can upload your own photo, which will appear throughout the simulation.
-
You can also download the foreground reading in PDF format from this page. It provides a brief overview of Spectrum Sunglass Company, including financial and industry data.
-
You can then scroll down the page and begin the tutorial. It is recommended that you complete the tutorial, as it provides step-by-step instructions on how to navigate and engage with the simulation.
-
You can progress in the tutorial by clicking the next button.
- You can access the tutorial at any time during the simulation by clicking on the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen. This menu remains available throughout the simulation and displays the following information:
- Your team members (if applicable)
- The current scenario you are playing and any upcoming scenarios assigned
- A direct link to the tutorial for guidance on how to play
- A link to Scenario Progress, where you can track which scenarios are not yet started, in progress, or completed, along with your performance
- Your Change Efficiency Ratio (CER)—a key metric that reflects how efficiently you’re driving adoption
- The progress bar, located at the bottom of the screen, is visible across all pages and provides a snapshot of your progress and performance throughout the simulation. It can be minimized to free up screen space. The progress bar includes:
- Weeks Used: Tracks how many weeks have elapsed out of the 96-week simulation period.
- Critical Mass: Displays the number of individuals who have adopted the change, with a marker indicating the target threshold. You begin with yourself counted as one adopter.
- Organizational Phase of Adoption: Shows the company’s progression through three phases—Mobilize, Movement, and Sustain—as the initiative gains traction.
-
Credibility: Reflects how your credibility within the organization impacts lever effectiveness. Strategic actions can enhance credibility, while poorly timed moves may reduce it.
-
To make a decision, navigate to the Decide tab, choose your decision, and then click Submit Decision.
-
In Team Play, all team members have access to the same information throughout the simulation. You should discuss your strategies and decisions together; however, only the Editor can submit decisions. The Editor is auto-assigned, and their name appears above the Editor button. At any time, a team member can take over by clicking “Become Editor” in the lower right-hand corner. For all other team members, the decision options and submit button will be grayed out, except for the Editor.
